Our mission is to bring Hebrew literature to the world.

Altneuland Press, based in Berlin, is an international publishing house dedicated to the worldwide distribution of Hebrew works, both in the original language and in translation. We are the first Hebrew publishing house to be established outside of Israel since its founding, marking a new chapter in the worldwide dissemination of Hebrew culture.
The name of the press reflects our commitment to creating an "old-new" land, where contemporary Hebrew voices resonate wherever they are spoken or written, without territorial restrictions
Publishing Vision
From 2025, Altneuland Press will publish books in the genres of fiction, narrative non-fiction and poetry. Our titles will be available in Hebrew as well as in English and German, in collaboration with local publishers, ensuring that these voices reach a wide international audience.
Altneuland Press was founded by Dr Dory Manor and Moshe Sakal, two distinguished writers with deep roots in both the Hebrew and international literary communities. Our translation consultant and editorial team member is Jessica Cohen, winner of the International Booker Prize.

We aim to develop and support an ecosystem that fosters discussion of Hebrew literature, promotes established authors, cultivates emerging voices, and introduces the richness of Hebrew literature to new audiences worldwide.

Meet the Team:
Dory, an Israeli based in Berlin, is a literary editor, author and publisher, and Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France. He brings a unique blend of Israeli and European literary expertise to Altneuland Press. Known for his exquisite translations into Hebrew of French classics such as Baudelaire, Voltaire, Mallarmé and Descartes, Dory has also distinguished himself as an editor and writer. With a proven track record in publishing and editing, including founding the influential Tel Aviv literary journal Oh! and editing works by prominent authors, including the 2024 Sapir Prize winner and many other award-winning writers, he has had a significant impact on modern Hebrew literature. The publication of his five volumes of poetry and his memoir further cements his role in enriching the literary landscape. Dory has been awarded the Berlin Senate Literature Fellowship and is an Honorary Fellow in Writing at the University of Iowa. Now he continues to bridge cultures and bring the depth and diversity of Hebrew literature to a global audience.
Born in Tel Aviv and having spent his formative years in Paris, Moshe brings a unique blend of Middle Eastern and European heritage. Raised in a family where East and West intertwined, his cosmopolitan outlook has been shaped by diverse cultural influences. An acclaimed author, he has published six novels in Hebrew, and his work has been translated into several languages and featured in publications such as Le Monde, Haaretz, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and Libération. He has been nominated twice for the Sapir Prize and has received the Berlin Senate Literature Fellowship and the Eshkol Prize. Moshe has lectured on his work around the world, sharing his unique narrative perspective. With a Master's degree in Philosophy and Digital Culture from Tel Aviv University and advanced studies at Inalco University, Paris, he founded The Archive project, an innovative audio collection of literary masterpieces. He is also an Honorary Fellow in Writing at the University of Iowa. Now based in Berlin, Moshe continues to combine his multicultural experiences with storytelling.
Jessica is an editorial staff member and Altneuland's U.S. representative. Winner of the International Booker Prize (2017) and a Guggenheim Fellow (2021), Jessica is the most prominent translator of Hebrew literature into English. She has translated works by David Grossman, Amos Oz, Etgar Keret and Ronit Matalon, among many others. Born in England and raised in Jerusalem, she currently lives in Denver.
Leanne's background and experience as a content specialist and translator brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to Altneuland Press. She is a Hebrew-English translator and content editor who has worked with established screenwriters, authors and artists, Israeli production companies, international organisations, newspapers and magazines (New York Times, Keshet International, ITHL, Time Out and others). She holds a Master's degree in Philosophy from Tel Aviv University. Born in Jerusalem, she currently lives in Berlin.

בימים אלה נוסדה בברלין, לראשונה מאז קום מדינת ישראל, הוצאת ספרים עברית מחוץ לגבולות המדינה. הוצאת אלטנוילנד הוקמה על ידי הסופרים והעורכים משה סקאל ודורי מנור.
ספרי ההוצאה בעברית יופצו פיזית ודיגיטלית במרכזים העיקריים של דוברי העברית בעולם: ישראל, גרמניה, צרפת, בריטניה, קנדה וארה"ב. הספרים יראו אור בסוגות שונות: פרוזה, עיון ספרותי (narrative nonfiction) ושירה. הכותבים והכותבות יהיו גם תושבי ישראל וגם מהדיאספורה.
אלטנוילנד תפרסם את ספריה בשתי מהדורות מקבילות: בעברית וכן בתרגום לאנגלית ו/או לגרמנית. הספרים באנגלית ובגרמנית יראו אור בשיתוף מו"לים בגרמניה ובארה"ב. בהמשך תתפרש ההוצאה לשווקים ולשפות נוספות. בכך שואפת אלטנוילנד לתרום להפצת הספרות העברית ברחבי העולם, גם בקרב מי שאינם קוראים עברית. יועצת התרגום של ההוצאה היא ג’סיקה כהן, כלת פרס בוקר הבינלאומי לשנת 2017 יחד עם דויד גרוסמן.

משלוח כתבי יד
הוצאת אלטנוילנד מקבלת לעיונה כתבי יד בתחומי הפרוזה (סיפורת) לגווניה, וכן בסוגת העיון הספרותי (*נרטיב נונפיקשן – ראו פירוט בהמשך).
במקרה של סיפורת אנו מקבלים כתבי יד שלמים בלבד. במקרה של עיון ספרותי, נקבל גם ראשי פרקים, וכן תקציר ותיאור מקיף של מבנה הספר.
לתשומת לבכם, בשלב זה איננו מקבלים ספרי שירה, קובצי מאמרים, קובצי מסות, ספרי מחקר, ספרי עיון שאינם ספרותיים, ספרי ילדים ונוער או ספרי מדע בדיוני ופנטזיה, וכן מחזות או ספרי עזרה עצמית. אנחנו מקבלים ספרות מקור בעברית בלבד.
הוצאת אלטנוילנד אינה גובה תשלום עבור קריאה של כתבי יד.
אנא קראו את הוראות ההגשה ומלאו אחריהן בקפידה. לא נוכל לטפל בהגשות שאינן עומדות בדרישות הללו.

במקרה של ספר בתחום הסיפורת, אנא שלחו לנו 30 עמודים מתוך כתב היד המלא בפורמט Word או PDF (גופן 12, רווח 1.5) בקובץ אחד. על הקטע לכלול את פתיחת הספר ברצף, ולחילופין – את פתיחת הספר (15 עמודים לפחות) וכן קטע אחד נוסף מההמשך. אין לשלוח בשלב ראשון קובץ של הספר השלם.

במקרה של עיון ספרותי לסוגיו, אנא שלחו לנו 30 עמודים מתוך כתב היד המוגמר, ולחילופין פרקים לדוגמה ותיאור כללי של הפרויקט בפורמט Word או PDF (גופן 12 ורווח 1.5) בקובץ אחד. אנו שבים ומציינים שלא נקבל אסופות של מאמרים או מסות.

נושא המייל: אנא ציינו בנושא המייל את שמכם המלא, כותרת כתב היד וז'אנר הספר (הוסיפו את שם הממליצ/ה במקרה הצורך).

לאחר קבלת כתב היד המלא במערכת, תקבלו תשובה חיובית או שלילית במייל בתוך כשמונה שבועות.
בנוגע לתשובת ההוצאה:

אם לא ניצור קשר תוך שישה שבועות לבקשה לשלוח את כתב היד המלא, אנא ראו בכך החלטה מצידנו שלא להמשיך בתהליך. לצערנו, לא נוכל לשלוח מכתבי דחייה אישיים או לנמק את החלטתנו. הבחירה אינה תלויה באיכות הכתיבה בלבד, אלא נובעת ממגוון שיקולים מערכתיים. אנא אל תראו בסירוב ההוצאה בשלב הראשון או השני של תהליך ההגשה עדות כלשהי לאיכות ספרכם.

במקרים שבהם נרצה להעביר את כתב היד המלא לצוות הלקטורים של ההוצאה, נפנה אליכם. שימו לב שבבקשת כתב היד המלא אין משום הבטחה להוצאת כתב היד, אלא מעבר לשלב שני של בחינה מעמיקה.

לאחר קבלת כתב היד המלא, תקבלו תשובה חיובית או שלילית במייל בתוך כשמונה שבועות.
